Rev 5: The Focus of Universal Worship, 4/22/1999

Who is Worthy to be the Heavenly Director of God’s Perfect Script?
  • Here John was taken to heaven. He saw the throne of God and the heavenly worship. He saw the scroll in God’s right hand. But what a disappointment it would be if this heavenly script could not be played out because no one was found worthy to direct it. “Who is worthy?” asked the angel. Who is qualified to direct this divine script?
  • Is there such a one who can be so steadfast, truthful and absolute in the execution of God’s will that He dares to face off with evil forces and wins? Is there someone who can move, direct and win all hearts and bring them to love and obey God? Is there such a one who is all-wise, all-knowing, all-compassionate, all-powerful who can realize God’s purpose on this earth? Is there such a worthy one in heaven, on earth or under the earth?
  • Oh, our world is lost. It is lost in sins and evils. “It lies under the evil one.” This world needs a Savior. It needs to be redeemed and be brought back to God. Wouldn’t we weep and weep if this one is not found? Oh, how vain even the heaven appears if there is not a Redeemer! Oh, how pitiful our life will be and how meaningless if there is not a way to turn around this eternal bondage of evils and sins. And, wouldn’t the whole universe break forth and sing for joy if such a One can be found!
  • Listen! There aren’t just the four living creatures and elders here. Oh, listen and see! Thousands upon thousands, ten thousands upon ten thousands! There are myriad of angels encircling us. They cannot contain themselves. The praises of a few will now trigger the praises of many more! Together they also raise their voices and praise this One! “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!”
  • And then we have the chorus. The four living creatures are praising Him (like a quartet?). The elders are worshipping Him (like a choir?). Myriad of angels is praising Him (like an orchestra?). Now the whole creation joins in (like a chorus?). The whole universe celebrates. This is quite a scene; I call this the crescendo of heavenly worship. All the creatures are praising Him because there is finally Someone to end this pervasive cycle of sins and decay. God has a salvation plan for this fallen world and we have a worthy Savior to execute it!
  • His salvation has not only brought hope to mankind. His salvation has brought hope to this entire world: the trees, the grasses, the flowers, the birds in the air and the fishes in the sea. Since the fall of man, death and decay have reigned. Nothing in this world can last forever. Everything has been subjected to corruption and vanity because of the fall of man. But one day Jesus Christ will come to end this world. He will “roll them up like a cloak and change them like a piece of clothing” (Heb. 1:12). One day, there will be a new heaven and new earth and all the evils, sins and decay will pass away for He will make all things new (Rev. 21:1,5). For this cause, the world sings in jubilation, “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!”

The Two Cities, 12/26/2003

  • In other word, men built a city to ensure their physical and psychological well-being. But having done that, they still found that they needed something much higher than that. They needed something to worship. Yes, this is always in men. What should they worship? Having denied God and refused to acknowledge Him, they desired to worship themselves. But once they started to do that, they found themselves totally despicable and totally unworthy. So they started to worship the heavenly hosts, the suns, the moons and the stars. When that didn’t help, they started to worship various powerful and capable men. And when that didn’t help, they ended up worshipping even the lowly beasts and insects on the ground.
  • “I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.” Unlike the city of Babylon where the temple-tower are demanding people’s worship with its system; here we no longer have any outward system of worship, but instead we have the true, real, object that deserves our worship – the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb. There is no hierarchical stairs to climb. There is no intermediaries of priests, bishops or popes. God is there and He can be approached by all the redeemed ones. For all, from the smallest to the oldest, will know Him and will worship Him.
  • And what is the duty of man? Here it says, “His servants will serve Him.” Serve Him. Be ready to do His duties, whatever that may be. I believe that there’ll still be plenty of things to do for Him on that day. Oh, just as we serve Him here, we’ll still be serving Him there.
