Man’s Consecration and God’s Blessing, 1/10/2010
- The LORD Himself is the blessing. Note the construction of this passage (Num 6:24-26) with the name of the LORD, YHWH, being placed right in the middle of all three phrases. Also note that in Hebrew the number of words increases from 3, to 5, to 7, with 12, to 14, to 16 syllables.
- The emphasis here is: (1) God is the center of all blessings. (2) When He blesses us, He blesses us bountifully. Like the waves from the sea, He bestows His blessing at an increasing measure. (3) His blessing is threefold: protection, grace and peace.
- The first blessing is that of divine protection: “Surely He will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.” (Psa 91:3-7).
- First protection, then grace: unconditional love and kindness. Then peace: to be whole, to have so much tranquility that nothing can upset us within, to have so much well being that everything within is calm.
- To be graced is to find acceptance with God; and as a result we have peace to be able to accept everything and everyone around us. And to emphasize this, the name YHWH is used twice: “May YHWH, indeed YHWH, give you peace.”
