Prayer to Dedicate the Temple, 10/26/2008

  • God loves Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. They have stood for His Name. They have walked with Him. God loves David — a man after God’s heart. Because of this love, this history, their descendents, the people of Israel, the Kingdom of Israel, is very “sentimental” with Him.
  • I am always touched when I contemplate this fact. Our God is a God who remembers us. When He gave the Law to Moses, He said, “I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.” (Deu 5:9-10)
  • Not just us, but our children. Do you believe this? Do we trust that He’ll take care of our children if we consecrate them to Him? Well, just look at the descendants of Abraham — then you realize that our God does remember His promise.
  • Our God is a God who keeps His word. This is what makes Solomon’s temple special. He has promised the people of Israel His presence, and this temple is a symbol, a visible, tangible symbol of that.
  • When the people of Israel come to Jerusalem annually, and they gather at the temple — they are reminded that they are special, the place is special, and what makes them special is God, what makes the place special is God. The all-mighty God chooses them, and the all-mighty God chooses to call the place by His Name.
